What can a garden designer do for you?

A garden designer will work with you to create a beautiful and functional outdoor space. They will help you turn your empty, tired or messy space into a beautiful, functional space with their design, botanical and practical planning skills. They do this by providing detailed and/or conceptual plans, to plant design advice. Their work usually includes hardscape elements such as paths, entertaining areas, garden structures such as sheds, and water features along with plant selections and placement. What is the difference between a landscape designer, garden designer and landscape architect?

Garden and landscape designers are essentially the same. They specialise in creating well-designed outdoor spaces, blending plants, layout and materials to create places that are beautiful, practical and enjoyable to use. They work across a range of garden types and scales, from private gardens to larger residential and rural landscapes. Landscape architects typically work on large-scale, complex or public projects such as parks, streetscapes and urban developments, where technical, regulatory and engineering requirements play a prominent role.

A concept garden design will provide you with a high level design that includes suggestions on materials, layout, plant selection and placement. It provides you with a design that you can either work towards building yourself or take to a landscaper to discuss how you might bring it to life.

We design for both new and established gardens in urban and rural settings, courtyards and balconies.

What does a landscaper do compared to a  garden designer?

Generally landscapers will do the practical work to create your garden; constructing the hardscapes, preparing the soil and planting the plants. Some landscapers offer garden designs as part of their services. These designs can range from plans professionally prepared by designers that work for the landscaper to landscapers that design and build, with varying degrees of sophistication.
